The Hanshin Tigers are a bit like the Newcastle United of Japanese baseball： a huge team who don't win much. (Until recently, the Boston Red Sox in the US, I think.) They represent Japan's second city, Osaka. Anyway, they just won the Central League pennant and their fans went bonkers. Here is an explanation of what was going on.

I remember when they won last time. i was about 13 or 14 and my science teacher (obviously a Hanshin fan) was smiling all day.
