There so much that one could say about this historic event and what the speech itself presages but .....! Suffice it to say that, for me, it was very moving and left me much more hopeful for the immediate future - despite the crises and woes besetting us. I recommend Jonathan Raban's Guardian Review article (24.01.09) as an interesting deconstruction of the language of inaugurals in general and Obama's in particular and how it delivered so effectively a clear rejection of the philosophy and record of the Bush years.
