A sobering experience

Posted by Picasa

I am not saying the Japanese are a bunch of old soaks but the row upon row of monster whisky and shochu bottles at the local hardware store was an eye opener. I'm not quite sure what relevance these Godzillas of the spirit world have to good DIY (maybe a swig or 20 helps with the band saw) but I have never seen bottles like them. They were bigger than the biggest Coke bottles I've come across and were wickedly cheap at about £25 for 4000 ml. I resisted the temptation.

I wonder if it is like the rather large bottle of Spa Whiskey we won once in a raffle? Not nice as would be expected!

I don't think my picture got across the true size of this beast. It contains 4000ml of liquid compared to the normal whisky bottle containing 700 to 750 ml.

The taste is very likely to quite like that Spa bottle. Although Suntory is actually good brand and makes some really good whisky, I think this is the bucket shop stuff.

When you get really submerged in DIY activity the purpose of these bottles will be revealed! It gives a whole new meaning to 'Turps Substitute' - p'haps it cleans paint brushes too!
